Hide No More

Citizens built "Hide No More" around a confession most people recognize before they admit it out loud: "I keep coming up short, living life like a ghost, just a shadow of myself." That opening image of hiding behind a performance, exhausted from "trying to be somebody else," sets up the song's turn toward something sturdier than self-improvement.

The chorus doesn't resolve the tension with a tidy fix; it names a source. "There's a power in me, it's beyond my control, it's unlocking my soul" points past willpower toward the Spirit's work described in 2 Corinthians 3:17 — freedom that originates outside the self. Galatians 5:1 frames that same liberty as something to stand in rather than earn back through hiding less.

By the bridge, the song admits the cost of concealment directly: "I could spend my life pretending that I'm better off alone, but I'm never really living if I'm never fully known." That's close to the logic of 1 John 1:7 — fellowship and cleansing happen in the light, not in the shadow the opening verse described. The repeated refrain isn't a slogan so much as a decision being made in real time.
