Stripped Away

Disciple's "Stripped Away" opens with a confession of distrust turned inward: the singer admits he doesn't want to be someone who can't trust, who turns away from the one he should run to. The admission that he is "a healer that's in need of healing" frames the whole song as a collapse of self-reliance. Rather than pretending to have answers, the lyrics ask whether it's acceptable to simply be searching for someone to save. The chorus returns to the image of clay being stripped away, revealing that underneath the persona there is only a person reaching for rescue. A second verse confronts the pedestal the singer has been placed on, and the light exposes a "tainted angel" — a self-image that cannot hold.
