Watch It Burn

Each line of this Disciple track carries a Bible reference in brackets, so the song is written as an annotated argument. The opening verse describes sin as something that "infiltrated, crawling on the inside," with "crooked hands" putting people "in their chains," pointing to Matthew 15:19 and John 8:34 on being a slave to sin. The singer is "so sick of feeling helpless" and "running this wheel to death," and the note beside that line is Matthew 11:28-29, the invitation to the weary.

The chorus is a demand: "To all the anarchy inside we can't escape, set it off, let it all burn down. To all the hell inside that's been controlling me... watch it all burn down." Its references are Matthew 18:8-9, where Jesus says to cut off whatever causes you to sin, and Romans 12:1-2, about being transformed.

The second verse turns outward, to a culture of "intoxicated drinking all your poison" and flattery that leaves people "eating crumbs off your hands," annotated with Isaiah 5:22, James 3:8, Psalm 55:21 and Daniel 11:32. It is "gotten far beyond reckless," and the song ends with the promise that you'll "see it going up in flames," a picture of purging rather than destruction.
