Disciple's "Turmoil" is a raw, first-person confession of the gap between what a believer professes and what they actually do. The opening image is brutal: comfort offered with one hand while a knife goes in the back, and a nagging "little old man" the singer would like to smack upside the head. The chorus pleads for a heart to be set free and a chain to be broken, while the verses admit the mess plainly — words that come easily but a life that can't back them up, and the uneasy question of whether sin is still sin when it's done in ignorance. A strange, almost surreal image of a pony eating from the cat bowl and an intoxicating fragrance drifting in suggests appetite and temptation pulling in directions that don't belong together. The song doesn't resolve into easy victory; it lands where Paul lands, crying out for rescue from a body that keeps doing what the will hates, and answering its own question with thanks that the rescue is Jesus. The tone is frustrated, honest, and unpolished rather than triumphant.
