Dunsin Oyekan's "Yah" starts from a stated failure of language — "generations after generations keep praising You, yet no word sums You up" — before answering that failure with the shortest possible name rather than a longer, more descriptive title. "Yah" is the shortened form of Yahweh, the covenant name God gave Moses at the burning bush, and the song's premise is that even after every generation's best attempt at description, the name God gave for himself remains the one that actually fits. "The hallowed one, the holy one" pulls language straight from the Lord's Prayer's opening line, hallowed be your name, applying centuries-old liturgical phrasing to this specific, older Hebrew name rather than to a general address. "King of Zion" narrows the scope from cosmic transcendence to a specific place with specific history, tying the unnamable God of the opening lines to the God who chose to dwell among a particular people in a particular city.
