In Your Presence
Song Meaning
Elevation Worship's “In Your Presence” opens with a run of four statements that all begin the same way: “In Your presence there is freedom... hope... healing,” and in the second verse “power” and “mercy.” The list is short on adjectives and long on results, ending in “Love restores me, I am whole” and “And in Your presence I'm alive.”
The chorus is where the song admits what presence is for. “No matter how far I run / You are with me / No matter how far I fall” puts the singer in the wrong, and the response is not correction but the line “God You never leave me.” The promise widens to a group in “Your presence goes before us / Your glory has no end,” then asks for guidance, “You will be our guide / To the end.” The song closes by repeating a short declaration, “The Lord is with me / He will not forsake me,” many times over.
Deuteronomy 31:8 is the source of that last promise, “The Lord himself goes before you... he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Psalm 16:11 places fullness of joy in his presence, and Exodus 33:14 records the original assurance, “My Presence will go with you.”
In Your presence there is hope
In Your presence there is healing
Love restores me, I am whole
No matter how far I run
You are with me
No matter how far I fall
Your love is everlasting
Your kindness never ends
God You never leave me
Your presence goes before us
Your glory has no end
God You never leave me
In Your presence there is power
Through Your spirit, strength will rise
In Your presence there is mercy
And in Your presence I'm alive
No matter how far I run
You are with me
No matter how far I fall
Your love is everlasting
Your kindness never ends
God You never leave me
Your presence goes before us
Your glory has no end
God You never leave me
You will be our guide
To the end, to the end
The Lord is with me
He will not forsake me
[x2]
Your love is everlasting
Your kindness never ends
God You never leave me
Your presence goes before us
Your glory has no end
