Trust In God

Elevation Worship's “Trust In God” takes its opening line from the old hymn “Blessed Assurance.” “Jesus is mine,” the verse says, and then makes the claim personal: “He's been my fourth man in the fire, time after time.” The singer describes being “born of His spirit, washed in His blood,” and says that “what He did for me on Calvary is more than enough.”

The chorus is a plain statement of confidence: “Oh, I trust in God, my Savior, the One who will never fail.” In the second verse the posture is “perfect submission, all is at rest,” with a reason given, “I know the author of tomorrow has ordered my steps.” The bridge turns to the listener with “He didn't fail you then, He won't fail you now,” and finishes with a testimony, “I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered, that's why I trust Him.” The song combines a hymn tradition with a modern band sound, ending on assurance and not a request.

Seeking the Lord and being answered is Psalm 34:4. The fourth man in the fire is Daniel 3:25, and trusting with all one's heart is Proverbs 3:5.
