There Is A King

A seat in the middle of the congregation is where the song places Christ: "There is a King seated among us, let every heart receive Him now." The next line, "where there is praise, He will inhabit," follows Psalm 22:3, and the promises that come with His presence are "grace and mercy all around" and "every burden will be lifted."

The chorus declares His name: "There is a name that reigns above all others, Jesus Christ, the King above all kings," which echoes Philippians 2:9. The verse behind it names the cost and the victory, "unto the Lamb, honor and glory, worthy is He who overcame, buried in shame, risen in power, He is alive and the stone is rolled away," and says "death is conquered and our Savior holds the keys," a reference to Revelation 1:18.

A final verse looks ahead: "it won't be long, we will behold Him, and every tear He'll wipe away, we'll be at home, the war will be over, soon we will meet our Savior face to face." That is the hope of Revelation 21:4. The close turns to worship, "all our worship will belong to You forever, holy, holy, for all eternity," and returns to the title chorus.
