Time In Between

Francesca Battistelli tells the Christmas story and the Easter story as one continuous sentence — "You were there when Your Father said, let there be light," moves straight into "nine months in a mother's womb, three days in a borrowed tomb," collapsing creation, incarnation, and resurrection into six lines.

But the song's real subject is the space between those two headline moments — the waiting, the days that don't make the highlight reel. "It's the time in between that brings me to my knees," she sings, admitting her own song "is incomplete" even while she keeps singing it. The bridge names the specific scene she's thinking of: "the middle of two thieves," the crucifixion itself, described almost in passing.

Luke records those two criminals crucified alongside Jesus in Luke 23:32-33, and Matthew notes the tomb Joseph offered was borrowed, not owned, in Matthew 27:60. Battistelli isn't just retelling those details — she's arguing that the unglamorous middle, not just the manger or the empty tomb, is where faith actually gets tested and holds.
