Linger

Slowness is the point from the first line: “I don’t wanna hurry / I don’t want to move.” Gateway Worship names the place where that stillness happens, “You are my sanctuary my upper room,” an image that brings to mind the upstairs room of waiting and prayer in Acts 1:13.

The verses ask for presence over progress: “Push through the fear and silence / Till time has been removed,” and “Keep me present in this moment / There is more You want to do.” Between them comes shelter language, “My dwelling place where I’m safe / My refuge from the storm,” close to Psalm 91:1, paired with a request to “Open my heart to hear your heart / To love you more and more.” Stillness turns into listening, the same invitation as Psalm 46:10.

A closing section shifts from staying to reaching: “I wanna go deeper / I wanna go further / Than I’ve been before.” Lingering and depth turn out to be one request, to remain near the Lord, much like the desire in Psalm 27:4 to dwell in his house and gaze on his beauty.
