Burial

Death and growth share the same soil in “Burial.” The opening claim, “To die is gain,” leads into graves, descending light, and the surrender of what is fading. A seed must disappear beneath the ground before new life becomes visible, so burial is treated not only as loss but as the hidden place where God prepares transformation.

The refrain expects “a miracle after the burial,” and later prayers ask for opened eyes to see God making all things bright and beautiful. John 12:24 supplies the seed image: a grain that falls and dies bears much fruit. Philippians 1:21 gives the opening phrase its Christ-centered meaning, while Romans 6:4 connects burial with Christ to walking in newness of life. Galatians 2:20 clarifies the closing declaration “You’re alive in me” as a life now shaped by Christ’s indwelling presence. The song never claims that surrender is painless; it places hope beyond the letting go. No grave can finally contain Christ’s life or love, and what seems finished may become the ground from which resurrection fruit appears.
