You Are Good

Israel Houghton keeps "You Are Good" almost entirely to one phrase, said different ways: your mercy endureth forever, straight out of the language David uses across the Psalms whenever he catalogs everything God has done and lands on the same refrain every time. Houghton widens the circle from Israel's covenant history to "people from every nation and tongue, from generation to generation," turning a very old liturgical line into something meant for a global room. There's no verse building an argument for God's goodness through hardship or turnaround — the song simply states it as settled fact and repeats it until the repetition itself becomes the form of worship. "You are good all the time" isn't a conclusion reached after telling a story; it's the premise the whole song stands on, which is why it works better sung communally than read as lyrics on a page.
