Thank You Lord (He Did It All)

John P. Kee's “Thank You Lord (He Did It All)” is a gospel song of gratitude that begins with a plain claim, “He did it all, all for me.” Kee adds that God “responds to thank you and gives me all I need.” The spoken style of the opening makes the song sound like a testimony given in church.

The verse points to the cross as the basis for everything: “You did it all back on Calvary, that's why I believe in divine destiny.” He then describes his own response to hard times, thanking God ahead of time. “He did it all and I thanked Him in advance, while others cry and complain I still have my dance.” The next lines draw on the first commandment, “There shall never be another God before me, to Thy holy name my glory shall always be.” The ending is a chorus of thanks, “Thank you Lord for all You've done for me, thank you Jesus,” and the choir repeats “You did it” until the song closes.

Giving thanks in all circumstances is 1 Thessalonians 5:18. The commandment about no other gods is Exodus 20:3, and entering his gates with thanksgiving is Psalm 100:4.
