10,000 Reasons

A sunrise opens this worship song, and the singer takes it as a cue to begin again — "it's time to sing Your song again" — with the resolve that whatever the day brings, the singing should still be going when evening falls. The chorus turns inward, addressing the soul directly and urging it to bless the Lord and worship His holy name, a self-command repeated until it becomes the song's spine. The third verse names the character of God behind all that praise: rich in love, slow to anger, great in name, kind in heart. That goodness is the reason the heart keeps searching out "ten thousand reasons" to sing. The final verse looks ahead to the day when strength fails and time runs out, and even there the soul keeps singing — ten thousand years, and then forevermore. The song holds morning and deathbed in the same breath, treating worship as something that outlasts the body. It closes by simply repeating the vow to worship that holy name, letting the declaration stand on its own rather than building to a climax.
