All In All
Song Meaning
Josh Garrels sets "All in All" under a night sky, away from city lights and "empty charms," where the singer goes looking for something pure and true. That search ends on a narrow path with a person rather than a place, and the first chorus becomes a vow: leaving it all for the glory of God's love and name, taking up the cross, and following wherever He leads.
The second verse describes where the singer had been, "entangled in the world," before finding Christ as a "treasure, precious pearl." The accounting language is deliberate. Every kingdom and every dream is weighed, the cost is counted, and compared to the Lord they are "all as loss." The song then thins out into a chant of "all in all" before the closing bridge, where surrender is stated plainly: "I surrender all I am now for the sake of your love."
The treasure and pearl imagery draws on Matthew 13:45-46, the counting of loss echoes Philippians 3:8, and the cross-bearing follow-me language comes from Luke 9:23.
Under the night sky, full of stars
Away from all the city lights, and empty charms
Searching for a place for something pure and true
Led me here, to the narrow path to you
I'm leaving it all for the glory of your love, your name
I give you all I've got to give until that day
Take the cross and follow you wherever you may go
You're my all in all
I was entangled, in the world
And then I found you my treasure, precious pearl
Now every kingdom, every dream, I count the cost
Compared to you Lord, I count them all as loss
I'm leaving it all for the glory of your love, your name
I give you all I've got to give until that day
Take the cross and follow you wherever you may go
You're my all in all
All in all
(All in all)
(All in all)
(All in all)
Your love is all that I want, today
I surrender all I am now for the sake
Of your love, to follow you wherever you may go
I surrender all
You're my all in all
