All That I Am

Josh Garrels builds this song around a single, repeated exchange: everything he is traded for everything God is. The opening lines lay it all on the altar, refusing to hold anything back in light of a sacrifice described as matchless. Pride and selfish ambition are named directly and handed over to die, and the singer finds an unexpected paradox in empty hands — that in releasing everything, he actually possesses it all, calling it the pure joy of knowing his Lord. The chorus returns like a vow, calling God the pearl beyond price and greater than life itself, a phrase that echoes Jesus' parable of the hidden treasure and the merchant who sells everything for one costly pearl. The bridge then turns the logic of surrender inside out: freedom is found not in keeping control but in letting go, and the repeated declaration of being free indeed lands with quiet conviction rather than triumph. The song stays spare and devotional throughout, its language of altars, treasures, and open hands giving it the feel of a personal consecration rather than a congregational anthem.
