Invocation

Song Meaning

A hushed, repetitive litany that feels closer to a breath prayer than a full song, "Invocation" circles a handful of images without ever raising its voice. The opening lines set a mood of stillness and safety, then immediately turn that stillness outward into petition: the Holy Spirit is asked to come and to do one thing — reveal Jesus. From there the lyric stacks a small cluster of devotional images: His love and light, His precious blood, and the exalted Christ declared holy three times over. The repetition is the point; the same eight lines return, which gives the piece the quality of a chant or a congregational response sung quietly before something else begins. There is no narrative arc, no verse-to-chorus development, just a settled posture of waiting. The Trinitarian movement is worth noting — the Spirit is invoked not for His own sake but to make the Son known, and the Son is met through blood and exaltation rather than through story or teaching. It reads as a doorway song, the kind of thing sung to settle a room before worship proper starts. Its restraint is its substance: a small, steady request repeated until it becomes the room's atmosphere rather than a performance.
