When Hope Came Down

Looking back at the first Christmas night, Kari Jobe starts in the past tense: "So this is how it was, a silent night like any other, when heaven sent the one we will call our Savior, and redemption begins in a stable in Bethlehem." The ordinary quiet of the opening gives way to a chorus where "all of the angels lifted up their voices and filled the night with hallelujahs."

The chorus calls listeners into that scene: "Everyone, come and join the heavenly chorus, our Savior King is here before us, all to hear the sound the song creation sang when hope came down." The title phrase makes hope an arrival and not a feeling. The angels filling the night with praise match Luke 2:13.

The second verse is about the Incarnation: "So this was truly God, wrapped in a tattered blanket, love was finally here, sleeping while the world awakened." That is close to John 1:14 and Luke 2:7. The bridge invites everyone to "sing redemption song" and says "we were lost, but we were found," a line that echoes Luke 19:10, where the Son of Man comes to seek and save the lost.
