Lord Strong And Mighty

Kurt Carr opens with a direct quote rather than an original line — "the Lord, our God is strong and mighty, the Lord, our God is mighty in battle" — borrowed straight from a psalm rather than paraphrased into something new. The chorus functions as an answer before the question in the bridge ever gets asked.

The verse names the fight plainly without dressing it up in metaphor: "there is a battle against you and me, but not a war that our eyes can see; we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but power and principalities." The threat is real in this song's world, just not the kind that shows up on the news.

Paul's description of the real battle as being against spiritual forces rather than human opponents gives the verse its exact language, and the psalmist's repeated question — "who is the King of glory?" — answered by "the Lord, strong and mighty" — supplies both the song's title and its structure. "The devil is defeated today by His power" isn't a hope stated tentatively here; it's sung with the same certainty as the opening declaration.
