Kutless opens "Dry" remembering a specific earlier feeling rather than describing a general spiritual state — "do you remember that day of your life, it seemed like yesterday that joy it filled my heart" — before naming what's different now: "the love's the same yet emotion's running dry."

"The feelings gone but I know Your still there" separates felt experience from actual presence instead of treating their absence as the same thing, and "I guess it's just a part of life that I must bare" accepts the season without pretending to enjoy it.

"It doesn't feel the same, and I'm feeling down, amidst my pain I see all my shame" lets the chorus stay in the discomfort rather than resolving it quickly, and "who am I to complain" catches the singer questioning his own right to the feeling even while naming it. The short closing lines, "I'm still free, You've set me free," don't erase the dryness described earlier — they simply state a fact that remains true whether or not it's currently felt.
