Matt Maher moves between English and Spanish verses that mirror each other exactly rather than adding different content in each language — 'where sin runs deep, Your grace is more' and 'donde Tú estás, hay libertad' ('where You are, there is freedom') say the same thing twice, once in each language, rather than splitting the song's ideas between them.

'Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more' echoes Romans 5:20's claim that 'where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly' almost exactly, and 'my one defense, my righteousness' reaches for 2 Corinthians 5:21's account of becoming 'the righteousness of God' in Christ — not a righteousness earned, but one supplied entirely from outside. The repeated title phrase, sung in both languages across the song, keeps the need itself constant no matter which language is doing the asking: 'every hour I need You' isn't a peak crisis moment, it's named as the ordinary, continuous condition the whole song is written from.
