All Glory

Matt Redman's “All Glory” is a congregational song of praise that centers on the Trinity. It starts at the gates of worship, “We enter Your gates with thanksgiving,” and continues with “we pour out our praise in Your presence.” Both lines are repeated, which lets a congregation settle into the song before the main theme arrives.

The chorus uses the old wording of the Gloria Patri: “All glory to the Father, all glory to the Son, all glory to the Spirit, the Spirit of our God. As it was in the beginning and will be in the end, all glory to Your everlasting name.” The second part gives a reason for singing. “This is the sound of the forgiven, a song of freedom,” and Jesus' name “resounds on and on.” The ending turns to the people, “Come on and pour His praises out, we sing for You alone,” and pictures God's glory “shining all around.” The song combines a classic liturgical line with a modern sound, so it feels both older and current.

Entering his gates with thanksgiving is Psalm 100:4. Glory given to the one on the throne and to the Lamb is Revelation 5:13, and giving the Lord the glory due his name is Psalm 96:8.
