You Laid Aside Your Majesty

Matt Redman spends this whole song on a single act of descent — "You laid aside Your majesty, gave up everything for me," sung about someone choosing to surrender status rather than have it stripped away. The next line makes the cost explicit: "suffered at the hands of those You created," turning the singer's own kind into the source of the suffering.

The response Redman offers isn't complicated theology — it's plain adoration: "I really want to worship You my Lord, You have won my heart and I am Yours." He keeps circling back to one fact as the reason for everything else: "You are the only one who died for me."

Paul describes that same descent in Philippians 2:6-8, that Christ, "being in very nature God," didn't cling to that status but emptied himself and became obedient to death, and Peter writes that he "bore our sins in his body on the cross" in 1 Peter 2:24. Redman's chorus is really just worship catching up to what that decision actually cost.
