Song Meaning

MOG Music's “Hallelujah” is a congregational praise song that builds on a single response. The chorus has a pair of ideas, “We will sing Hallelujah” and a prophecy: “Every knee will bow down, every tongue confess and say Hallelujah.” The first is about what the group is doing now. The second is about what everyone will do eventually.

The bridge puts the future into present tense by repeating the prophetic lines on their own, “Every knee will bow, every tongue confess.” The repetition does the work a verse might do, letting the idea settle until it feels like something the room is already saying. The word hallelujah is Hebrew for praise the Lord, and in this recording it is the one word that every listener can join in on without needing the lyrics.

The kneeling and confessing come directly from Philippians 2:10-11, where every knee bows at the name of Jesus and every tongue confesses that he is Lord. That passage in turn draws on Isaiah 45:23, which says the same of the Lord God.
