Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Nordeman borrows the title of an old hymn but writes new verses under it, naming what actually weighs a person down — "weary mind," "heavy heart," "frozen hope" — before landing on Hebrews 12:2's instruction to fix your eyes on Jesus rather than manage the weight yourself. "Look full in His wonderful face" isn't decoration; it's the hymn's original command, restated as the song's whole strategy.

The bridge reaches back further, to Peter's actual water-walking failure and recovery: "you will walk on waves again when you have set your gaze on Him" reworks Matthew 14:29-30, where looking at Jesus kept Peter upright and looking at the wind sank him. Nordeman's answer to "a long night" isn't that morning is guaranteed to feel different — it's "look up," twice, like a reminder that has to be repeated because looking down is the default.
