Create In Me

Rend Collective's “Create In Me” is a short, upbeat prayer built on a line from David's psalm of repentance. It opens, “Create in me a clean, clean heart,” and then adds requests in the same pattern: “a work of art,” “a miracle,” and “something real and something beautiful.” The words are plain, so the song can be learned by a group quickly.

The second part gives the reason the singer expects an answer. “You're not finished with me yet.” The line repeats and is joined by “by Your power I can change.” The last words, “Make all things new,” widen the prayer beyond one heart to include everything. The Irish band's folk instrumentation, with banjo and stomping percussion, matches the tone of hope and humility. The song doesn't tell a story. It asks for change and trusts that God is still working on the singer.

The first line is Psalm 51:10. God completing his work is Philippians 1:6, and making all things new is Revelation 21:5.
