Song Meaning

Rend Collective's kids' song credits God with the whole laboratory. He "started science and quantum physics," wrote "the law of gravity," and stands as the "smartest" scientist in history, with narwhals, armadillos and long-ago dinosaurs among his creations. The humor is deliberate, and it keeps the awe from turning stuffy.

The second verse brings creation close to home: "my atoms and all my organs," "every strand of DNA." God is cast as the artist and listeners as the canvas, "uniquely wonderfully made," which invites a dance "like stars at night." Then the bridge sprints through a rapid list, from apple juice and sunflowers to Jupiter, geckos, eyebrows and earlobes, and keeps circling back to "pandas and nostrils and trees."

Each section lands on the same sing-along line: "Our Great God of all things bright and beautiful," capped with "Thank you, God, for making me." Psalm 139 praises being fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 104 marvels at God's works made in wisdom, and Colossians 1 says all things were created through Christ.

[Verse 1]
You started science and quantum physics
Wrote the law of gravity
You are the smartest, You are the greatest
Scientist in history
You thought of narwhals and armadillos
All the creatures great and small
Even the dinos a long, long time ago
With their teeth and terrible claws

[Chorus]
Our Great God of all things bright and
Our Great God of all things beautiful
Our Great God of all things wild and free, free
Thank you, God, for making me

[Verse 2]
You made my atoms and all my organs
Every strand of DNA
You are the artist, we are the canvas
We're uniquely wonderfully made
You make me happy, my bones and body
Love to dance like stars at night
So, let's get started and have a party
Celebrate this marvelous life, yeah

[Chorus]
Our Great God of all things bright and
Our Great God of all things beautiful
Our Great God of all things wild and free, free
Thank you, God, for making me

[Bridge]
You made apple juice, sunflowers
Penguins and rhinos
Pineapples, Jupiter
Elbows and geckos
Broccoli, Mercury
Sunshine and weirdos
Pandas and nostrils and trees
Bumblebees, polar bears
Raptors and eyebrows
Wildebeests, moustaches
Earlobes and wormholes
Mountain goats, volcanoes
Turtles and big toes
Pandas and nostrils and trees
Puppy dogs, waterfalls
Kittens and rainbows
Galaxies, mushrooms and
Badgers and pharaohs
Elephants, great white sharks
Music and mangos
Pandas and nostrils and trees
Pandas and nostrils and trees?

[Chorus]
Our Great God of all things bright and
Our Great God of all things beautiful
Our Great God of all things wild and free, free
Thank you, God, for making me
Our Great God of all things bright and
Our Great God of all things beautiful
Our Great God of all things wild and free, free
Thank you, God, for making me
Thank you, God, for making me
Thank you, God, for making me
