King Of Me

Rend Collective builds this one entirely out of Sunday-school-familiar stories, but treats them as evidence rather than nostalgia. "Have you heard the story about my friend King Dave, wouldn't let the giant stand in his way" turns David and Goliath into a personal reference point — "my friend," not a distant Bible character.

Daniel gets the same treatment two verses later: "they said throw him to the den of the scary beasts, but God saved our hero from the lion's teeth." The chorus keeps stacking territory God rules over — giants, lions, "creatures of the deep" — before landing on the actual point: "my God's the king of me."

The bridge makes the logic explicit rather than leaving the stories as illustrations: "this is more than history, He will do the same for me, like Jonah and the whale at sea." David's own words before the fight — that he came in the name of the Lord, not by sword or spear — back up the song's confidence that the same God who handled giants, lions, and a storm at sea is still doing the same kind of work now.
