O Come All Ye Faithful (Let Us Adore Him)
Song Meaning
Rend Collective's version keeps the eighteenth-century Latin hymn's English translation almost entirely intact, opening with a direct summons rather than a description: "O come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem." The carol addresses the listener before it addresses the scene.
The second verse widens the invitation past the human singers entirely — "sing, choirs of angels, sing in exaltation, sing all ye citizens of Heaven above." Earth and heaven get the same instruction, sung in the same breath.
The third verse names what's actually happened in theological language rather than just narrative: "Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing" — John's Gospel compressed into a single line. That same Gospel's claim that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and the angels' own announcement of glory to God in the highest, both sit behind a carol whose repeated command — "O come, let us adore Him" — never actually changes across three centuries of being sung.
O Come All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord
O come, all ye faithful
Come let us adore Him
O come, all ye faithful
Come let us adore Him
Sing, choirs of angels
Sing in exaltation
Sing all ye citizens of Heaven above
Glory to God, glory in the highest
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord
Oh, yes, Lord, we greet Thee
Born this happy morning
Jesus to Thee be all Glory given
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord
