Song Meaning

Rev. Igho and The GF Choir perform “Jehovah Mo,” a Nigerian praise song that moves between English and Igbo. The title means roughly “You are my Jehovah.” The opening is a series of names with a response in parentheses: “You are Jehovah, the living God; the great I am; Almighty God; El-Shaddai.” The singers then ask, “Who is like You?”

The verses argue for God's size. “You are bigger than what people say, You are mightier than what people call You.” Then they list what he can do: “You can heal the sick anyday, you can make the poor man to live in glory, you can raise the dead from the grave, you can make a way where there is no way.” The Igbo lines praise the one “who does good” and call him “the lion that watches over His people” and Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. The great I am is from Exodus 3:14, and the God who heals is Exodus 15:26. Having no equal echoes Jeremiah 10:6.
