Since He Came

Ricky Dillard's “Since He Came” is a testimony song about change that follows meeting Jesus. It begins with a plain report: “A wonderful change has come over me.” The singer then lists what is different. “Things I used to do, I don't do no more, things I used to say, I don't say no more.” The reason is given in the next line, “Since He came into my life, I'm not the same.”

The rest of the song repeats that statement and builds on it. “Change, change, everything changed, He made a change, a great change, great change, great change since He came into my life.” The choir carries the repetition, so each phrase gets louder and faster. The lyrics do not describe one event. They are the kind of testimony a person might give in church, short enough to be shared and easy for a whole room to join.

The change in a person who belongs to Christ is 2 Corinthians 5:17. Putting off the old self is Ephesians 4:22-24, and being transformed is Romans 12:2.
