Who Is Like Our God

Rivers & Robots' “Who Is Like Our God” is a list of questions that all have the same answer. It opens with “Who was in the beginning before time began? Who holds all of creation in the palm of His hand?” and replies that the Father is “the one who sustains all things,” “the source, the Creator of everything.” Asking instead of stating gives the song a sense of wonder.

The second part borrows from the prophets and psalms. “Who's thoughts toward me outnumber the sand? Who has given Him wisdom? Who has made Him understand?” The answer is that “He sees all things, He knows all things,” followed by the song's title question, “Who is like our God in all of the earth?” The chorus is short and repeated, “He is holy, He is worthy,” and the bridge turns the awe into a request: “Fill me with the knowledge of You, God,” and “open my heart to Your truth.” The singers ask for more of God, not more answers.

The questions about God's wisdom come from Isaiah 40:13-14. His thoughts outnumbering the sand are in Psalm 139:17-18, and all things being held together in Christ is Colossians 1:16-17.
