Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Selah keeps Thomas Chisholm's hymn text unchanged, and the opening line makes a claim that doesn't rely on circumstance to hold up: "there is no shadow of turning with Thee, Thou changest not." Whatever else shifts, the hymn insists, this one thing doesn't.

The chorus turns that stability into something noticed daily rather than declared once: "morning by morning, new mercies I see, all I have needed Thy hand has provided." Faithfulness, in this hymn, isn't an abstract attribute — it's something observed fresh each day.

Lamentations' own declaration that the Lord's mercies are new every morning gives the chorus its exact language, almost word for word, and Malachi's claim that "I the Lord do not change" backs up the opening verse's confidence directly. The final verse widens the evidence outward to creation itself — summer and winter, sun and moon — joining nature to the hymn's own witness rather than treating faithfulness as something only visible in personal experience.
