Feel Invincible

Skillet pitches this one as a fight song. The verses put the narrator under pressure, with a "target on my back," knocked down each morning, "chewing me up, spitting me out," and then counted out: "The bell has been rung, it's over and done." The chorus answers with a string of big images, an earthquake, a tidal wave, "the roar of victory in a stadium," and the claim "I'm made of fire."

The strength is attributed to a "You" rather than to the singer. "You make me brave," "You in my corner; look at me now," and "When I need to be saved / You're making me strong, you're making me stand" all point the credit outward. The lyrics never name God directly, so the Christian reading rests on that language of being saved and held up, together with Skillet's identity as a Christian rock band.

That framing fits Philippians 4:13, which speaks of doing all things through the One who strengthens, and Isaiah 40:31 on those who wait on the Lord renewing their strength. Paul's line in 2 Corinthians 12:9 about power made perfect in weakness suits the verses, where the narrator starts out knocked flat.
