Do It Again

Travis Cottrell's “Do It Again” (the Elevation Worship song) begins at the walls of Jericho: “Walking around these walls / I thought by now they'd fall.” The singer is mid-march, tired and wondering why nothing has happened, and the next line is the answer to the doubt, “But You have never failed me yet.” That sentence returns in every section, and the closing lines turn it into a vow, “And I never will forget.”

The chorus gives a short statement of confidence, “Your promise still stands / Great is Your faithfulness,” and the bridge changes tense from past to future. “I've seen You move, You move the mountains / And I believe that I'll see You do it again” works as a memory of rescue and an expectation of another, with the second line, “You made a way where there was no way,” recalling a path through the sea. The final minutes repeat “I'll see You do it again” until the claim feels settled.

The marching walls are Joshua 6, where the city falls on the seventh day. “Great is Your faithfulness” is Lamentations 3:23, and the way through waters is the picture in Isaiah 43:16.
