Reuben Kigame and Sifa Voices open this Swahili hymn by quoting 2 Timothy 4:7 almost directly — "nimevipiga vita vizuri, mwendo wangu nimeumaliza" ("I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course") — Paul's own closing words near the end of his life, reused here as a present confession rather than only a final testimony.

"Yeye ni mwanzo na mwisho wa imani yetu" ("He is the beginning and the end of our faith") reaches for Hebrews 12:2's description of Jesus as "the author and perfecter of faith." "Hata wakiniacha rafiki zangu, siri mimi niko na Imanueli" ("even if my friends leave me, I remain with Immanuel") names isolation directly rather than avoiding it, then answers it with the same title — "God with us" — naming Christ's own nearness as the actual remedy.
