I give myself Away

Song Meaning

"Take my heart, take my life, as a living sacrifice" is a near-direct lift from Romans 12:1 — Paul's appeal to present your body "as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God," exactly the posture the whole song builds toward. The refrain "my life is not my own, to You I belong" echoes 1 Corinthians 6:19-20's reasoning that believers were "bought with a price" and therefore don't belong to themselves. Even the opening line — "here I am, here I stand" — recalls Isaiah 6:8, where Isaiah answers God's call with the same short declaration: "Here I am, send me." The song has almost no narrative; it's structured as pure surrender, repeating the same offering until it becomes a settled decision rather than a single moment.

[Chorus x2:]
I give myself away
I give myself away
So You can use me
I give myself away
I give myself away
So You can use me

[Verse 1:]
Here I am
Here I stand
Lord, my life is in your hands
Lord, I'm longing to see
Your desires revealed in me

[Chorus:]
I give myself away
I give myself away
So You can use me
I give myself away
I give myself away
So You can use me

[Verse 2:]
Take my heart
Take my life
As a living sacrifice
All my dreams all my plans
Lord I place them in your hands

[Chorus x2:]
I give myself away
I give myself away
So You can use me
I give myself away
I give myself away
So You can use me

[Bridge x7:]
My life is not my own
To you I belong
I give myself, I give myself to you
