Touch the Hem

William McDowell and Trinity Anderson build this song around one physical detail from the gospels: "touch the hem of His garment, you'll be made whole." It's a direct reference to the woman in Mark 5 who, after twelve years of illness and no cure from anyone else, reasoned that touching even the edge of Jesus' clothing would be enough — and it was.

The verses set up the same desperation that drove her: "when hope is lost and you find yourself broken... when all you have is one last breath." Mark 5:28 records her exact logic — "if I touch even his garments, I will be made well" — and the song borrows that reasoning wholesale, treating it as available now, not just as a first-century miracle story.

What follows the hook each time isn't a new verse but a repeated list — "there's healing, there's freedom, new life at the feet of Jesus" — stacking those words instead of moving the story forward, the way a testimony gets repeated until it settles into certainty. Mark 5:34 records Jesus' own verdict on the woman afterward — "your faith has made you well" — which is the quiet claim under every repetition here: reaching is enough.
