Chris Rice turns the tired half-full/half-empty question on its head by deciding the glass is tipping in his favor regardless. The song opens as a playful dare to a hesitant lover — ask her for happy ever after, pour the glass, take a chance — then widens into a sunny confession of a life lived without pretending, born under a tangerine sky. The chorus keeps circling back to gratitude: life handed him lemonade, and he can't imagine why, so he simply says thanks. The second verse slows down for the romance itself, a trembling hand calmed by another, the world tilting in the couple's favor as they swirl in the flavor. The bridge is the most charming turn: he's got it made, resting in the shade, holding his love while God above stirs with a spoon, the two of them sharing the moon and smiling at the bees, asking for more sugar.
