Welcome To Our World

Chris Rice frames the nativity as an act of hospitality offered by a broken people, opening with tears and breaking hearts before any mention of the stable. The chorus repeats a simple welcome to the Holy Child, but the verses carry the weight: the singer admits the manger is a poor accommodation and confesses that we should have known better, calling Jesus a long-awaited Holy Stranger asked to make Himself at home. From there the song widens into petition — peace brought into violence, hungry souls filled, the Word breaking Heaven's silence. The second half turns toward the cross without leaving the cradle, pairing a fragile finger sent to heal with a tender brow prepared for thorn, and a tiny heart whose blood will save. The final request is startling in its intimacy: wrap our injured flesh around You, breathe our air, walk our sod, rob our sin and make us holy. It is a Christmas song that never stays sentimental, holding incarnation and atonement in the same breath.
