Chris Tomlin's live arrangement keeps the eighteenth-century hymn's structure fully intact through its first three verses, then adds a repeated declaration that isn't in the original text at all: "You are the Lord, You are the Lord, You are the Lord, yeah." The hymn's third-person adoration turns briefly into direct address.

That shift matters because of what comes right before it — "Word of the Father now in flesh appearing," the same compressed Gospel claim the hymn has always carried. Tomlin's crowd doesn't just sing about that claim; they respond to it out loud.

John's declaration that the Word became flesh and dwelt among humanity gives the hymn's third verse its content, and the added closing section, "we'll praise Your name forever," extends the carol's ancient command — "O come, let us adore Him" — into a promise about what happens after the song itself is over.
