The Cross Of Christ

Chris Tomlin and Passion build the song out of short, paired titles rather than full sentences — "Son of God, Son of man, His life poured out for all" — stating who Jesus is and what He did in the same breath instead of separating the two.

"See His hands, see His scars, His love can't be denied" turns the crucifixion into something to look at directly rather than describe abstractly, before the chorus names the transaction plainly: "every debt, all we owe, He bears it as His own," language that echoes Paul's image of a record of debt nailed to the cross rather than simply forgiven in the abstract.

The closing lines shift from Calvary to throne room — "our God is high and lifted up" — and from crucifixion to the title John gives Jesus at the Jordan: "see the Lamb of God, see the Father's love, all to Jesus we owe, He paid it all."
