Love Has Come For Me

Colton Dixon's “Love Has Come For Me” starts with a familiar kind of self-talk: I can do better, someday I will get it all together. Then comes the honest question, who am I fooling, since he is weak and prone to be the same person he has always been. The only thing left to do, he says, is surrender.

The chorus describes what surrender looks like. This is where I end and this is where you start, and everything I needed is everything you are. Then the refrain follows: love has come for me. The second verse wonders at a love that does not let the past enslave him and loves the part of him that most needs a remedy. He asks to be a life that God keeps changing and says he will go where God wants him to be. Even though he is broken, he can see that love has come for him. The last lines repeat that he is never going to get it all together and that surrendering is the answer. The piano-driven pop sound and the plain wording make it a song for anyone worn out from trying to be good enough, and it works for a service on grace, a counseling setting or a quiet moment for someone who has been working to earn what can only be given.
