Wake Up

A wake-up call sung to people who feel stuck. The opening questions, "Is anybody out there" and "does anybody even care, anymore," speak for someone sleepwalking: "stuck inside the same dream, waiting on the sun to rise," though "deep inside your heart screams for more." The second verse names the condition as "a state of complacency," a "nightmare" the listener no longer wants to live in.

The chorus is the message. "Wake up! The story begins when we open our eyes," Colton Dixon sings, promising that "chains will be broken and the dead will rise." The line is the song's clearest echo of resurrection language, and it is shouted in the plural: "We gotta wake up," "we're coming to life." Each repetition turns the call from an individual challenge into a group one.

The song never names Christ, so it reads best as a call to spiritual renewal. Ephesians 5:14 speaks nearly the same words, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead," and Romans 13:11 says it is time to wake from sleep. The closing "alive, alive, alive" keeps that image of new life in front.
