Umetukuka

The song's central line — "Mtakatifu, mtakatifu, Bwana wa majeshi, dunia yote imejawa na utukufu wako" — is a Swahili translation of Isaiah 6:3, the seraphim's cry around God's throne: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory." The same threefold "holy" appears again in Revelation 4:8's vision of worship around the throne, suggesting the song draws on both the Old and New Testament versions of the same declaration. The title word "Umetukuka" means "You are exalted/glorified," and the opening call-and-response — "Mfalme Mwema, Mwaminifu... Baba Mweza yote," "Good King, Faithful... Father Almighty" — functions as a leader-and-congregation liturgy, structured the way call-and-response worship works in many East African church traditions.
