Truth Be Known - Everybody Gets A Shot

Newsboys built "Truth Be Known" around a handful of small, recognizable characters — the guy who "nods a little too fast" arguing in bad faith, the one who "tries a little denial" and rolls her eyes at anything resembling a hard question. Each verse catches someone mid-dodge, using the era's favorite line of defense: "opposites attract, so they both must be right," truth reduced to whatever's comfortable.

The chorus refuses that shortcut. "Truth is more than 'to each his own' / If the truth be known, there'll be more to answer for" pushes back against relativism directly — the idea that everyone gets to define their own reality without consequence. It's a claim Hebrews makes plainly: people are appointed to die once, and after that comes judgment, not an open-ended negotiation.

The sharpest line comes almost as an aside: someone who "hopes to God he doesn't exist" while shrugging off the question with "don't know, don't care." The song calls that what it is — willful ignorance, not honest uncertainty, echoing Paul's argument in Romans that what can be known about God is plain enough that no one gets to claim total innocence. "Everybody gets a shot" isn't a threat; it's the song's insistence that the truth is worth taking seriously before the shot runs out.
