Song Meaning
Newsboys frame this one in the language of a video game rather than a testimony — 'game over,' 'restart,' the specific mechanics of being knocked out and given another attempt rather than the usual conversion imagery. 'I was twisted, like bad religion, fully committed to my way of livin'' names the problem as self-direction, not just failure, which makes 'you hit the restart' land as something closer to resurrection than a mulligan.
The bridge drops the gaming metaphor entirely and states the theology plainly: 'you make all things new, that's just what you do,' pulling straight from Revelation 21:5's promise from the one seated on the throne. Framing an ancient claim about cosmic renewal inside a word as casual as 'restart' is a small risk — it could trivialize the idea — but the song earns it by keeping the personal stakes concrete throughout ('knocked down on the ground, seein' double') rather than letting the metaphor float free of an actual story.

I was finished, game over
Couldn't carry the weight on my shoulders
At my end, in trouble
Knocked down on the ground seein' double
But then Your love, love opened my eyes
Lifted me up, up, now I'm alive
I raise my hands, hands to the sky
Singing “Oh oh oh oh oh oh†“Oh oh oh oh ohâ€
Oh Lord, I'm a different man
You gave me a second chance
I was lost, I was fallin' apart
But You came along, and You hit the restart
You, You, You hit the restart
You, You, You hit the restart
You, You, You hit the restart
You came along, and You hit the restart
I was twisted, like bad religion
Fully committed to my way of livin'
I heard the preacher, but never listened
On a dead end road without a mission
[Chorus]
Restart, Restart, Oh Oh Oh
Restart, Restart, Oh Oh Oh
I was lost, I was fallin' apart
But You came along, and You hit the restart
[Bridge:]
You make all things new
That's just what You do
You're making me new
