Kindness / Give Us Clean Hands

Passion pairs two distinct songs here, and the first makes an argument that runs against a common assumption — that guilt, not kindness, is what actually produces repentance. 'It's Your kindness, Lord, that leads us to repentance' quotes Romans 2:4's claim that 'the goodness of God leads you to repentance' directly, reversing the more familiar logic of fear-driven confession.

The second half shifts from that received kindness to a specific, physical request — 'give us clean hands and give us pure hearts' lifts Psalm 24:4's description of who may 'ascend into the hill of the Lord,' and 'who seeks Your face, O God of Jacob' closes the same psalm's thought. 'We bow our hearts, we bend our knees... we cast down our idols' names the posture the request requires, not just the words — this isn't a plea made from a comfortable distance, it's paired with an actual physical and internal surrender happening at the same time it's being sung.
