I Worship You

Loneliness is the starting point. The verses say it without decoration: family and friends are gone, there is no one else to turn to, and the singer cries. Then the song turns on a single reminder, "you're on my side," and the opening promise of a God who is "always there" to guide through stops sounding like a slogan and starts sounding like something lived.

The chorus is a vow stretched across a lifetime. "For the rest of my life I will" worship, yearn and love, and the repetition gives the line the feel of a promise being made out loud, again and again, until it settles. A short vamp strips the language down to "I love you" and "All praise for you" before the closing section, where the word "Holy" is sung over and over.

That closing refrain echoes the seraphim of Isaiah 6:3, while the verses sit near Psalm 27:10, where God receives the one whom others leave, and Psalm 63:1, where the soul thirsts for him. It is a plain, devotional piece that moves from abandonment to adoration without hurrying the trip.
