Church Music

We The Kingdom's “Church Music” asks why Sunday morning rarely feels like Saturday night. The opening wonders what would happen if all of God's people arrived with joy jumping in their eyes, and then asks for a little volume, an amen, a hallelujah and for the choir to begin.

The chorus is a plea for freedom: take me to the land where milk and honey flow, and imagine church music that felt like rock and roll. It pictures Jesus getting behind the drums, people jumping up and down the aisles, and revival breaking out in the room. The verses call for guitar, bass, tambourine and dancing, and reach for the line that whoever the Son sets free is free indeed. Holy Ghost fire is named as the thing that takes the singer higher than ever, and the invitation is to come and meet Jesus, find freedom and be born again. A late line admits that the music itself is not the point, but that God can use it to make someone jump out of their skin. The upbeat band sound and call-and-response lines make it a good opener for a youth night or a service that wants to start with energy. It suits a congregation that wants praise to feel alive.
